Bias‐Adjustment Methods for Future Subdaily Precipitation Extremes Consistent Across Durations

چکیده
Model output from climate projections often requires bias-adjustment to compensate for systematic model errors. A method extreme precipitation intensity is proposed that preserves the scaling equation different accumulation levels hourly daily, using intensity-duration-frequency (IDF) modeling. validation performed within a pseudo-reality setting, based on 28 regional of EURO-CORDEX ensemble over Belgium. The scaling-based adjustment methods improve upon previous methods, an optimal identified, and, analytical quantile mapping must be avoided due three identified problems. mean adjusted obeys above-mentioned scale-invariance property, which consistent with observed intensities. We thus show IDF modeling provides added value in context bias-adjustment, particular balances well between accuracy and preservation desired properties such as scale invariance consistency among rainfall durations.

Ecosystem functional response across precipitation extremes in a sagebrush steppe
Background Precipitation is predicted to become more variable in the western United States, meaning years of above and below average precipitation will become more common. Periods of extreme precipitation are major drivers of interannual variability in ecosystem functioning in water limited communities, but how ecosystems respond to these extremes over the long-term may shift with precipitation...
متن کاملPrecipitation Extremes Under Climate Change
The response of precipitation extremes to climate change is considered using results from theory, modeling, and observations, with a focus on the physical factors that control the response. Observations and simulations with climate models show that precipitation extremes intensify in response to a warming climate. However, the sensitivity of precipitation extremes to warming remains uncertain w...
متن کاملA perturbation approach for assessing trends in precipitation extremes across Iran
Extreme precipitation events have attracted a great deal of attention among the scientific community because of their devastating consequences on human livelihood and socio-economic development. To assess changes in precipitation extremes in a given region, it is essential to analyze decadal oscillations in precipitation extremes. This study examines temporal oscillations in precipitation data ...
متن کاملIs the intensification of precipitation extremes with global warming better detected at hourly than daily resolutions?
Although it has been documented that daily precipitation extremes are increasing worldwide, faster increases may be expected for subdaily extremes. Here after a careful quality control procedure, we compared trends in hourly and daily precipitation extremes using a large network of stations across the United States (U.S.) within the 1950–2011 period. A greater number of significant increasing t...
